The Hunt:
We took HWY 34 into Bingham and turned onto S. Butler Rd. We took that to the famed crossroads where the light is supposed to be commonly seen. We got out of the car for only a few minutes and we saw more headlights coming in the direction that we'd came so we ran back in the car, not knowing who it was. We found out that it was Liz and Christal, since they were supposed to meet us there.
We got out and looked around and talked and everything and we looked around at the area where most people meet to party and found that it was in a terribly trashed state. Trash was everywhere and the Historical Landmark sign for Reedy Creek Springs was stole and placed down there for a fire to be built.
We decided to get to hunting, so the six of us started walking to the road that branches to the left and shortly after, Darrell saw lights flashing in the woods and heading towards the cars at the cross roads. We were jokingly saying that the light was going to get in the cars and come try to run us over, which is ironic, but that won't be revealed until later.
So we were walking and looking for a path in this field that's supposed to take you to a place to see the light well and when we got on it, a few of us were spotting lights in the same area as Darrell had seen them before. We didn't get far down the little road thing before we all saw a flashing light out across the field to out right, above the tree line. We never figured out what it was. We thought it could be from a tower because of the steady blinking, but we were not sure because we didn't know that there were any towers back there. We stood there looking at it and at other things we spotted for the longest time, occasionally calling for Mister Bingham to show himself. Darrell, though, was going as far as to talk negatively about Mister Bingham. We didn't pay it any mind, though. It was funny and we all got a laugh out of all of it.
At any rate, we decided to go back to the cars to see if we could figure out what was causing the flashing light we'd seen before but we couldn't see it one we got back there. Shannon had left a spot light on Darrell's car and when we got back, we grabbed that and I grabbed something to drink and we started talking about our further plans for the night.
So we stood outside of the cars for a little while and we were talking and casually seeing and hearing things sometimes but after about thirty minutes or so, we decided we should head on out to Montrose.
We all hopped in the cars and Liz and Christal were headed down the road but Darrell's car wouldn't start. Liz and Christal then stopped and came back to us and we were trying to get it to start and all when Darrell called for a flashlight and Shannon handed him her spot light and it was dying, dying, then dead. This light had been charging for nearly a week straight and went dead after we'd left it on Darrell's hood for 30 minutes.
We soon realized we were not going to get the car cranked so we decided to just push Darrell's car off the side of the road and he'd call a tow truck when he got home. Darrell was pushing from the driver's door and I thought Blowout was going to get the front passenger's door so I took the back driver's side door near Darrell. I realized no one was on the other side so I was like "Shit I need to be over there" and I slammed the door shut and started walking when I heard Darrell yell and I realized I didn't hear the door close. He had his hand on the part where the front of the door closes and I had slammed his fingers in the door! Clearly this was not Darrell's night! He'd made fun of the light and now his car was dead and his fingers nearly broken.
I made sure he was ok and we started pushing and when we got it off the road he was like "What the hell is that on my roof?" and we looked, and oddly enough, there was a circle probably about 8 inches in diameter on his room that was dry and matte looking. It had been raining when we first got there so the entire thing should have been wet and glossy but only this one circle was not and it was near the center of the roof. We were already sick of Bingham so we all loaded into Christal's car and we headed to Montrose...
On the way we discussed Darrell's rotten luck and I was so excited to see Montrose so I was hyped like mad.
We found the road and Liz and Christal were telling us how bad this place was and we thought they were just chickens then we got there... TERRIFYING. And we couldn't even see in the cemetery at this point! We were all scared to get out so we sat there talking trying to decide who'd get out and all and someone realized we should kill the lights so our eyes could adjust to the darkness. HA! That's a laugh! We sat there for like ten minutes and I stil couldn't see a thing. The place is unnaturally dark.
When we all got out, we first went over to the collective stone with all of the names on it. It was heavily vandalized. Liz and Christal are the only ones who'd ever been there before so they had to tell us all about it. They were not willing to go in with us so Darrell, Shannon, and I all went towards the gate and we all felt a deep, sharp, coolness. We'd been outside all night but for the first time, I was shivering. We decided we couldn't find the grave we wanted to see without help so Christal decided to run in and show us then run out.
We grabbed a spotlight and off we went. It was Shannon, Darrell, Christal and I. We got in the gate about no more than 10 or 15 feet when we all suddenly heard a rushing sound. We all agreed it sounded like a "SSSSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH" sound and Darrel thought it even sounded like someone running at him! Needless to say, we got out of there. I was the last one in and the last one out.
We re-grouped and decided to go in again and not to run. We stepped in the gate and that's when everyone felt things happening. Shannon said her chest started hurting. Darrell felt like it wasn't safe to be there. I felt like I was walking under water and walking on a big cushion of marshmallows. We slowly went forward and we stopped about 20 feet in and Christal pointed to the grave of Joeseph, told me to take a picture and to hurry up. I zoomed in and snapped a few off and then Darrell and I wantd to go closer so we did (since he did have the light, after all) and I took a few more and Shannon later told me being near there made her chest not hurt. Christal was screaming at us to come on right away so we ran back to the gate and as everyone was getting in the car, Darrel pulled me aside and told me he didn't want to freak anyone out but he thought he had seen a big black human-shape to the side when I was taking the first pictures. Since we were no longer in the gate, I didn't feel too freaked but still freaked out either way. Without any hesitation, we got in the car and got the hell out of there.
Our trip to Montrose itself lasted no more than 30 minutes but it was the most terrifying place I have EVER been to. I can't think of a way to put it into words. You feel as though you're surrounded by people that hate you and want to get rid of you. Please, if anyone reading this ever decides to go to Montrose, bring PLENTY of friends and PLENTY of lights, or you'll end up hurting yourselves to get out of there. You also might want to do like us and park so that its just a straight drive out.
Findings/Conclusions:
Bingham's light MIGHT be haunted. The electrical problems with the car and the light were very odd. Darrell's mechanic told him that his battery was dead when they got the car, althoguh we tried to boost it with the other car. (And a side note, when the tow truck went to get the car, they said they saw a light hovering over it.) The fact that the spot light that died on us was perfectly fine after we left is also kind of creepy.
Montrose Cemetery IS haunted. I have no doubt in my mind about that. Between the things I've stated about what happened already and what I haven't stated (such as something pulling Shannon's hair really hard and Darrell having a bruise on his arm from where he felt something grabbed him to the transmission popping on the drive down the little road, I'm saying it is VERY haunted. The vibes are bad and strong and... yeah. I think it's a dangerous place. I'm also now proclaiming it to be the most haunted place in SC.
As I and Darrell will both tell you, don't diss the light. It may or may not have caused his bad luck buy why risk it?
