Old Cotton Gin
Location:
Hamer, Dillon County, South Carolina
The Story (History):
I've always thought this place was creepy, but never knew it was supposed to be haunted until recently. From what I remember from passing by it often, it is a couple old brick buildings in Hamer with a large brick smoke-stack type thing. Monolythic structures creep me out as it is so the big smoke stack does it for me.
From what a friend says he heard on the radio about haunted places near Halloween, there was supposed to have been a woman walking with her child on the porch or something and the porch collapsed and killed them both, I think. He said it was an old cotton gin and the only place that came to mind like that in Hamer was that place. It is said that you can hear the child crying among other things. If anyone has any further information on this such as an absolute location (as of now, we can only speculate that the building we're thinking of is the one in question), let me know by email or what-ever.
My Thoughts/Feelings/Findings/Opinions:
I don't know much about this so I can't say much at all. I've always thought that the place was really creepy before I knew there was any stories to it. I hope to be able to check it out some night in the near future. That that point, I will update with my findings and thoughts.
Directions:
As far as I know, you PROBABLY get there by taking Highway 301 North to Oakland Road and then you take a left. As far as I can remember, you then will pass some train tracks and possibly some trees. The gin is on the right in a fence (I think). There are a few complicated type loops of roads right in front of it.
More definate directions coming ASAP.
