About Us
We were formed in 2003 by Darrell Coon and Preston Cox (The Prynce) out of a common interest in the paranormal. After a few name changes, we settled on calling ourselves The Southeastern Paranormal Informative Research and Investigative Team. We won't lie- We were just looking for the right words to fit into 'S.P.I.R.I.T.'.
Above all, we have a love of truth which fits in perfectly with our love of science and the paranormal.
How We Do It
-- We use a Scientific Method variant in all of our investigations. Since technically, our hypothesis for a case cannot always fit into the typical format of scientific method, we use the board hypothesis of "This location has no paranormal occurances." We then use scientific method in separate experiments to test specific claims in a location.
-- 99% of all 'orbs' we catch on film or other media are tossed on the 'scrap heap' right away. To this date, we have never used an orb as evidence and its unlikely we ever will. 'Orbs' can come from so many things (insects, dust, droplets of water/moisture, lens flair, etc) that we are in no way comfortable ever calling one of these intensely questionable 'things' evidence.
-- We try to eliminate all sources of contamination in an investigations. We believe its best to speak at full volume to limit false EVPs. Smoking in an area being investigated is also a no-no.
-- 'Feelings' and 'sensations' are NOT evidence. If you want to use them to guide yourself with scientific equipment, that's fine. Such things are not to be documented as 'evidence', but may be mentioned in investigation reports.
-- Caffiene is avoided by us during investigations most of the time. There are situations where it is alright, but overall we like to avoid it. Caffiene's stimulating effects may cause over-heightened senses, changes in blood pressure, and many other effects that may be to the detriment of good investigation.
-- Skeptism! While some of us have had encounters that leave us as 'believers', we encourage skeptism during an investigation. Some of us have never had an encounter and either don't believe or aren't too sure. We accept all types. BR>
-- We're not stuffy. We know a lot of people look down there nose at this stuff and that's their right. While we're always professional on investigations, we don't take the fun out of everything. A sense of humor is a 'must'. We have fun on investigations! If you were a ghost, wouldn't you want to talk to people who were having fun being jovial? We're not pretencious. We don't care if you call us 'ghost hunters'. That's what we are! There are more technical terms for it, but who cares?
-- NO OUIJA - We do not use divination in investigations. Dowsing is sometimes used to help us find places to target, but it is never used without other equipment.
-- NO CHARGE!! - We will NEVER charge to do an investigation. We DO accept donations. If you want to help us out with lodging, traveling expenses, etc. then that's fine but we do not require it from anyone.
